Biography

I am a graduate of the University of Khartoum and because I have obtained the highest performance average in the fifth year and being the top of the class, I have been awarded the B.Sc. honors degree with the University Prize for the Best Student at the Fifth Level as well as the Minister of Higher Education’s Prize for Best Students in Natural Sciences in 2000. According to this rank, I have been selected to the position of a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Science, University of Khartoum, then was appointed as a junior lecturer after obtaining the M.Sc. degree in 2004 followed by promotion to an assistant professor after getting my Ph.D. degree in 2009. My Ph.D. research was sponsored by the German Exchange Program, DAAD-In-country, and I managed to tackle an advanced topic in Microbiology/Plant Biotechnology as I successfully did the first plant transformation trial in Sudan. I also had the chance to travel to University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA as a one-year research scholar (Aug. 2011-Aug. 2012) and it was under the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) merit scholarship program. As a researcher, I was the one of the winners of the AU-TWAS award for young scientists (2013) and the University of Khartoum merit researchers in 2016.
I’m well trained by attending more than 40 professional training courses, workshops and summer schools. I managed to successfully transfer my knowledge and skills to other young researchers working in different themes of Microbial Biotechnology, Plant-Microbe Interaction and Plant and Soil Microbiome. According to my contribution to teaching, research and administrative activities, I have been promoted to an Associate Professor (Microbiology/Biotechnology) in August 2013 and got a prima facie approval to be a Full Professor. In addition, I managed - with other researchers in a fruitful team work - to publish more than 60 research articles, conference papers/posters and reports and fully contributed with my research group to establish the Microbial Culture Collection Unit (MCCU), at the Faculty of Science, University of Khartoum, which is a unique unit in Sudan and I’m one of two leaders of all research carried out there. I’m also a consultant for, and member of, some National committees that have the responsibility of taking confidential decisions on behalf of their corresponding ministries in Sudan (e.g. Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research as well as The Higher Council of Environment).
